Overview
The recent shortage of influenza vaccine has been of great concern;
however, the fragility of the vaccine supply system has been an on-going
issue that limits our ability to immunize people according to recommendations.
Public health agencies, collaborating with health care providers,
vaccine distributors, and manufacturers, have taken unprecedented actions
to protect the most vulnerable populations against influenza this year.
This challenge has given us the opportunity to evaluate our vaccine supply
system and assess our preparedness strategies. Join us as we
examine the
role of the Arkansas Department of Health and in particular the actions
of the White County Health Unit in Searcy, AR, in responding to the vaccine
shortage by implementing a statewide preparedness plan to protect their
communities during this crisis.
